My paintings explore the abstraction that happens within realism.  I am interested in textured surfaces created by age and wear. My technique utilizes painting in layers which allows me to render detailed surfaces.  I intend to show the beauty in details through smaller vignettes that allow the viewer to see objects in a new way.

My current work is inspired by objects that show evidence of their history in their surfaces, like antique coins.  As a child I spent hours exploring my father’s coin collection, wondering where they had been and how they got their dents and scratches.  Now as an adult artist I am interested in the idea of beauty created by the history and weathering of objects.  There is a whole world that is revealed when a small object is rendered on a large scale.

  1. Amazing art work. I keep thinking they must be photographs. They are so realistic!
